WHO ON 'EARTH' IS DAN?
Meet Dan
The face and founder of Dan's Plants, I do everything from potting and watering to marketing and markets. With the help of my family I run Dan's Plants while working in destination marketing, promoting the amazing Lake District, Cumbria.
Meet THE FAMILY
Dan's Plants wouldn't exist if it wasn't for my family. Grandma has always encouraged planting and sowing seeds from when I could walk. Everyone works so hard to help me grow the plants I do today, attending events, watering, potting, and anything else that needs doing around the nursery.
We just love plants
We specialise in cottage garden perennials, particularly specialising in Astrantia, Echinacea, Lupin and Aquilegia, but also grow and supply a range of alternative herbaceous perennials, grasses, dahlias and bedding plants.
The full story...IF YOU'VE GOT TIME
2024
This year I've taken on a small piece of land part of the Sizergh Estate, developing unused agricultural land to start my proper plant nursery journey.
2023
After taking on more stockists and events, the business doubled in size. I've attended some events for the first ever time... Countryfest, Dalemain Plant Fair, and I've mastered how to make Christmas wreaths.
2022
Because starting a degree isn't enough, whilst I work full time in destination marketing and study for a management degree, I've still got my foot on the gas for growing Dan's Plants.
2021
It was a busy year, not just with plants, I was also sitting my a-level's at the time. Lets just say I like to be busy.
2020
This year was a real turning point (in more ways than one! thanks covid), I started selling to my first stockist, Low Sizergh Barn. What a year, demand was through the roof, I couldn't keep up!
2019
Throughout the years I've tried growing different plants, this year I had a go with Dahlias. Soon I found there was a demand for planted dahlias, so I kept growing them, plus the perennials.
2018
With our neighbours head to toe in plants, I needed somewhere else to sell my plants! 'Grandma' (also overwhelmed with plants) introduced me to Winster Church Book & Plant Day where I started selling them once a month.
2017
I have always grown plants, since I could walk. But the fun started in 2017 when I started selling plants to neighbours after sowing hundreds of Marigold seeds and dividing plants from my parents garden (the garden still looks empty to this day!).
